BriiightSerpent is a Tasmanian-born, Melbourne-based cosplayer with a passion for all things spooky, fantastical and intricately crafted. Having cosplayed for seven years, he has dedicated himself to mastering a wide range of skills including pattern making, hand embroidery, leatherworking, foam smithing, fabric embossing and special effects makeup. A self-described needlework enthusiast, he once spent over 500 hours hand embroidering a single cosplay coat – a testament to the level of craftsmanship, patience and love he pours into every project. Inspired by fandoms such as Critical Role, Dragon Age, Baldur’s Gate 3, Bleach, Naruto, The Magnus Archives and Vampire: The Masquerade, he strives to bring the fictional worlds he adores into reality through costume making and performance.
BriiightSerpent’s cosplay journey began after years of attending Oz Comic-Con events, which ultimately inspired him to take the leap into creating costumes of his own. Since then, he has studied fashion design at TAFE and theatrical costuming to continue broadening his knowledge and refining his craft. From tracing clothing patterns onto baking paper as a beginner to creating award-winning hand-sewn builds, cosplay has become both a creative outlet and a deeply personal form of self-expression. Through the hobby, he has also discovered and embraced his identity as a trans man, finding confidence, belonging and lifelong friendships within the cosplay community.
An active competitor in both craftsmanship and performance categories, BriiightSerpent has recently taken home awards for both Best Performance and Best Craftsmanship, with ambitions to continue pushing his skills even further. Beyond competitions, he is passionate about fostering community connection and hopes to inspire others to embrace cosplay regardless of experience level. Whether through conventions, community events like ICON Photofest, or future networking opportunities, he hopes to continue sharing the creativity, support and joy that cosplay has brought into his life.
